Winter Melon Tea Bober Tea Century Square Review
I honestly kena stunned at Bober in Century Square because the most basic request somehow became a whole confusing conversation. I asked for my Winter Melon Tea with no sugar, and the staff told me no sugar, only syrup. But hello, syrup itself contains sugar right? That is the whole point. I was genuinely speechless for a moment because if a customer is asking about sugar level, especially when some people are watching their sugar intake or just not in the mood for sweet drinks, the staff should at least understand what goes into the drink. It is not just about taking orders fast, it is about knowing your ingredients and giving proper answers. The attitude also did not help. Very grumpy, very little patience, and honestly the customer service felt almost non-existent.

I visited Bober at Century Square on 5 July 2026, mainly because I was thirsty and wanted something quick to drink. I am not new to bubble tea either. I usually drink bubble tea about once a week, and I already have 2 to 3 favourite brands that I rotate between. So when I try a new outlet or revisit a familiar brand, I am not expecting some five-star fine dining treatment. I just want a decent drink, clear ordering process, and staff who can answer simple questions without making the customer feel like a burden.
The queue was short, just one person, so I thought it would be a quick and fuss-free stop. Waiting time was normal, around 5 to 10 minutes, which is acceptable for a bubble tea shop. No issue there. The problem was really the whole ordering experience. The drink was non-customisable, which already limits the customer’s ability to adjust sweetness or milkiness. For a drink like winter melon tea, that can be tricky because winter melon is naturally on the sweeter side, and if syrup is involved, the sweetness can easily become too much.
I ordered the Winter Melon Tea in size L, priced at $5.20, with no topping. For a large drink, $5.20 is not shocking in today’s bubble tea market, especially in a mall like Century Square. But once I tasted it, I really felt the price was not justified. The drink was too sweet, too milky, and had that artificial syrup kind of flavour that lingers in the mouth. Instead of being refreshing, it became quite jelak after a few sips. Since I bought it to quench my thirst, I expected something lighter and cleaner. But this one made me feel like I needed plain water after drinking it.
Winter melon tea should have a nice mellow sweetness, a bit of depth, and that cooling feel that makes it shiok on a hot Singapore day. This version did not give me that. The syrup taste was too obvious, and the milkiness overwhelmed whatever winter melon character was supposed to be there. Without any topping, there was also nothing to distract from the drink itself, so the flaws stood out even more.
What disappointed me most was still the service. A drink can be too sweet, okay lah, maybe personal preference. But when the staff cannot explain the ingredients properly and responds with a grumpy attitude, that becomes a bigger issue. Bubble tea shops deal with sugar levels every day. Customers ask for less sugar, no sugar, no ice, fresh milk, syrup, toppings, all these things are part of the job. If the staff does not know what contains sugar, then training is really needed. It is not enough to just press buttons on the cashier.
I also feel that customer service matters a lot, especially for regular bubble tea drinkers. Most of us have our favourite brands for a reason. It is not just the drink, but the overall experience. When an outlet makes you feel dismissed, you naturally will go back to the brands that treat you better and give you drinks that are more consistent.
Overall, this visit to Bober at Century Square was a letdown for me. The drink was overly sweet, too milky, and tasted artificial. The service was cold and unhelpful, and the staff seemed to lack basic product knowledge about sugar and syrup. For $5.20, I expected much better. I would rate this 1/5, and no, I would not recommend this particular drink or experience. If sugar levels are important to you when buying drinks, you may want to think twice before ordering this.
